Newark, N.J. (January 26, 2007)?With two dual meets, the MAAC Championships, and ECAC Championships all still ahead for Manhattan Women's Swimming, the season is far from over. But if anyone was wondering about the caliber of leadership the Lady Jaspers will have next year, junior Michelle LaTouche provided an answer on Friday night.
After being designated a co-captain for the 2007-08 season, LaTouche responded with a career best time to win the 200 freestyle (2:24.12) and propel Manhattan to its record 12th win of the season; the Lady Jaspers downed the New Jersey Institute of Technology, 53-30. LaTouche's victory led a one through three Manhattan sweep of the event with senior Meghan Daly claiming second place and sophomore Anne Mohan clocking in at third.
LaTouche's fellow co-captain next season, junior Maura McGowan, also had a successful night in the pool, anchoring the 200 free relay team to victory (1:45.78). McGowan also swam the third leg of the winning 200 medley relay (2:02.88).
After being held back by an ailment earlier in the season, sophomore Susie Mothes also contributed to the team victory over the Highlanders. Mothes earned top billing in the both the 50 freestyle (27.71) and 100 freestyle (1:02.53).
Manhattan concludes its home schedule tomorrow afternoon, January 27, against CW Post at 2:00 p.m.
