GAME 2 BOXSCORE

Staten Island, N.Y.- - (March 30, 2006) The Lady Jaspers verdale, NYfell short on Thursday afternoon to the Wagner College Lady Seahawks, losing both games in the double- header. The sweep puts Manhattan at a record of 11-11.

In the first game, Wagner's junior pitcher Morgan Miller limited Manhattan to four hits and no runs. In the top of the seventh the Lady Jaspers had three consecutive singles to start the inning. Senior shortstop Kiera Fox singled up the middle, followed by freshman Danielle Just's single to right, advancing Fox to second. Senior first baseman Tina Buyea stepped in and smoked a clutch single through the left side moving Fox to third and Just to second. Freshman Amanda Genovese tired to keep the rally going with a sac fly ball to right, but the throw home beat Fox. With two outs Miller closed the door, making the final score 0-3. Senior pitcher Jill Medea (8-5) was handed the loss for the Lady Jaspers.

In the nightcap, momentum seemed to swing towards the Lady Jaspers early on in the top of the second. Freshman Danielle Just started things off with a double down the right field line. Freshman catcher Amanda Genovese took advantage of the opportunity, hitting a single up the middle, scoring Just, putting Manhattan on the board first. Wagner then fired back with a lead off triple by Victoria Bastistelli, she scored on a fielder's choice by Jaclyn Vanore. Vanore then advanced to second on a throwing error and scored on a RBI bunt from Andrea Lazzari.

In third Wagner added on three more runs on the board making the score 5-1. Tina Buyea led off the fourth inning with a double to left and would later score on a fielder's choice to make it 5-2. Manhattan could not catch a break the rest of the game and Wagner's offense stormed again in the bottom of the sixth, putting the game away. Junior pitcher Elizabeth Pennino (2-3) was dealt the loss for the Lady Jasper's.

Manhattan looks forward to this coming Saturday, April 1st at 1:00p.m. The team will be traveling to Marist for their first MAAC conference double header of the season.
