Hempstead, N.Y. (March 19, 2006)- In an old fashioned slugfest, Hofstra's offense proved to be a little too much for Manhattan, as the Pride downed the Lady Jaspers, 14-8, this afternoon at the HU Softball Field.

Hofstra scored twice in the second and exploded for seven runs in the third to open up a 9-0 lead.

Manhattan began to chip away at the lead beginning in the fourth inning. Danielle Just kicked things off with an RBI single. Tina Buyea brought home the next run when she was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, and Deirdre Langan brought home a third with an RBI fielder's choice to make the score 9-3 after four innings.

The Lady Jaspers scored twice more in the fifth on a Hoftra error and a Langan RBI single to pull with four, 9-5, but the Pride answered with five runs in the top of the sixth to blow the game open, taking a 14-5 lead.

Manhattan made the game a little more compelling in the bottom of the frame, as a Lyndzie Phillips RBI single and a two RBI single from Just to provide the final margin.

Liz Pennino worked the first six innings, striking out five. Kristen Gelsleichter worked the seventh, allowing no runs and no hits.
