Baltimore, Md. (February 16, 2006)- Manhattan established three new school records on Day One of the MAAC Championships, held at Loyola College. The Lady Jaspers are currently in seventh place after six events.
Manhattan kicked off the meet with a seventh place finish in the 200 free relay, as Courtney Arduini, Megan O'Keefe, Sarah Szotak, and Maura McGowan combined to record a new school record time of 1:42.84, eclipsing the previous mark of 1:44.50 set last year at the MAAC Championships.
In the 50 free, McGowan took home a 12th place finish, breaking her own school record with a time of 25.63. She set the previous record of 25.83 at this same meet a year ago.
The same quartet that set a new Manhattan standard in the 200 free relay got back together in the 400 medley relay, equaling their seventh place finish while also establishing a new Manhattan standard, touching in with a time of 4:15.00, smashing the old mark by 2.86 seconds, recorded at the MAAC Championships last season. In this version, the order of swimmers was Szotak, Arduini, O'Keefe, and McGowan.
The meet continues tomorrow.
