Old Westbury, N.Y. (December 2, 2006)-In their final competition until the season resumes in late January, Maura McGowan, Courtney Arduini, Megan O'Keefe combined to win eight individual events and two relays. As a result, Manhattan Women's Swimming defeated St. Joseph's College (N.Y.) by an official count of 131-111 and now enters the winter hiatus with a school record 11 wins.
All three ladies helped Manhattan strike first by earning a victory in the 200 medley relay with McGowan anchoring the squad.
Two events later, O'Keefe claimed first place in the 200 individual medley by posting a time of 2:23.21. O'Keefe also earned victories in the 100 butterfly and 200 freestyle, dominating the rest of the field. Her time of 1:02.51 in the 100 fly was more than five seconds better than that of runner-up and teammate Sarah Szotak. O'Keefe's 200 free time of 2:09.63 was nearly 13 seconds faster than the second place finisher.
McGowan, who also anchored the winning 200 freestyle relay, earned an individual victory the 50 freestyle by clocking in at 26.43s and also took first in the 100 freestyle with her time of 57.13s.
Arduini proved to be the top swimmer in three individual events. Her time of 31.38s won the 50 backstroke. She touched in at 1:18.84 to claim first in the 100 breastroke. In the100 individual medley, Arduini posted a time of 1:10.49 to edge out teammate Kellie Monaco. Monaco, however, did manage to earn a win in the 500 freestyle by clocking in 5:55.65.
Manhattan Women's Swimming, who posted a program record winning streak and a seasonal record of 11 wins during the first segment of its season, returns to the pool on Friday, January 26, 2007 to take on the New Jersey Institute of Technology.
