Riverdale, N.Y. (November 3, 2006)- The MAAC Women's Soccer postseason awards were announced last night at the MAAC awards banquet. Senior tri-captain Katie Kuntz was named First Team All-MAAC, and freshman forward Alexandra Konneker was named to the MAAC All-Rookie Team. In addition, eight Lady Jaspers were named to the MAAC All-Academic Team.
Kuntz, a tri-captain, was instrumental in helping Manhattan win a program record 12 games. A Second Team All-MAAC selection a year ago, Kuntz followed that up by leading the Lady Jaspers with 11 goals and 24 points, both good for fourth in the MAAC. Kuntz also scored six game winning goals, including an double-overtime goal that ended Loyola College's 45 game MAAC unbeaten streak.
Konneker, part of an impressive freshmen class for head coach Sean Driscoll, was third on the team in goals with five and tied for third in points with 14. Konneker was named MAAC Rookie of the Week for the week ending September 5, scoring two goals in Manhattan's 4-0 win over the University at Albany. The Newtown, Conn. native scored goals in back-to-back Lady Jasper victories over Marist and Delaware State.
The eight Lady Jaspers named to the MAAC All-Academic team are Christine Abrams, Nicole Conti, Meghan Dobson, Brittany Duhamel, Courtney Hughes, Erin Kennedy, Katie Kuntz, and Viviane Masters. This is the third selection for senior tri-captains Abrams and Kuntz, while Conti, Dobson, and Hughes earn the award for the second time. Duhamel, Kennedy, and Masters are first time recipients.
Kuntz and Masters have also been recognized as ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 1, with Kuntz being named to the All-District First Team, which qualifies her for the national ballot.
The Lady Jaspers finished their season with a 12-5-2 record, winning a team record six straight games to begin the season, and finished fifth in the MAAC with a 4-3-2 record. Manhattan is still awaiting word on whether they will be invited to the ECAC Women's Soccer Championships held on November 11 and 12.
