Riverdale, N.Y. (November 1, 2006)- In the finale of the Manhattan Madness celebration to kick off the 2006-07 basketball season, the Green team defeated the White team, 46-37, tonight at Draddy Gym in men's basketball action. Freshman Jamel Ferguson led all scorers with 13 points.
In a shortened length game that saw two 15 minute halves, the White team used a balanced scoring attack to take a 17-12 lead into the break. Preseason First Team All-MAAC junior Arturo Dubois pulled down six rebounds to go along with his two points, two assists, one block, and one steal in the opening stanza.
In the second half, the two teams played an aggressive up and down game, scoring a combined 54 points. Dubois, red-shirt freshman Christian Jackson, and senior transfer Shagari Alleyne each scored six points for the White team, while three rookies, Ferguson (11 points), Darryl Crawford (eight points), and Laurence Jolicouer (six points) combined for 25 points for the Green team.
Junior Frank Traore finished the game with nine points and eight rebounds.
The Jaspers play an exhibition game against New York Tech on Wednesday, November 8 at 7:00 p.m. at Draddy Gym before opening the regular season at home on Saturday, November 11, hosting NJIT at 2:00 p.m.
