Riverdale, N.Y. (October 28, 2006)-With its sweep of a double dual meet on Saturday afternoon, Manhattan Women's Swimming has equaled the best start in program history with a 5-0 overall record. Behind the efforts of
Megan O'Keefe and Kellie Monaco, the Lady Jaspers defeated the New Jersey Institute of Technology and Mount St. Mary's University.
After shattering several program records during her rookie campaign, O'Keefe has picked up right where she left off a year ago. The sophomore from Pearl River, N.Y. won two individual events and a relay to help Manhattan knock off NJIT by a count of 31-19 and Mt. St. Mary's by 48-45 tally.
After swimming the third leg on Manhattan's first place 200 Medley Relay team, O'Keefe won the 200 Freestyle with a time of 2:03.17. O'Keefe went on to score another first place finish in the 100 Butterfly by clocking in at 1:02.05.
Monaco, who occupied the second leg of the 200 Medley Relay, captured first place both the 100 Breaststroke and the 200 Individual Medley. Monaco won the 100 Breast going away with a time of 1:16.98, which was more than 12 seconds better than the runner-up. The 200 IM proved to be a much closer race, but Monaco prevailed when she touched in at 2:27.79.
Manhattan returns to the pool on Friday, November 3 at St. Francis College. The dual meet is slated to start at 6:30 p.m.
