Washington, D.C. (September 28, 2005)- Manhattan hung tough with 25th ranked Georgetown University this afternoon, but could not overcome a big second half, as the Hoyas downed the Jaspers, 3-0, dropping Manhattan's record to 0-9-0.
The Jaspers and Hoyas battled back and forth in the early going, with Manhattan carrying play early, tallying the game's first corner kick and shot on goal against the fourth ranked team in the NSCAA's South Atlantic region. The Hoyas finally solved Jasper netminder
David Mires just before the half, as Sean Bellomy headed home a cross from Mike Glaccum at the 41:34 mark to give the Hoyas a 1-0 advantage at the break.
Manhattan again came out aggressively, tallying two corners and two shots on goal in the first three minutes of the second stanza, but could not crack the scoreboard.
Georgetown doubled its advantage at the 61:12 mark, as Ricky Schramm took a pass from Ben Jefferson-Dow and beat Mires from right outside the box.
Schramm would add an insurance goal on a penalty kick at the 64:31 mark to provide the final margin.
Mires tallied a game-high nine saves, while Joe Devine tallied three saves for Georgetown.
Justin Schultz (2), and
Chris Smith (1) tallied the three Manhattan shots on goal.
Manhattan returns to action on Saturday, October 1, when the Jaspers conclude a 10 game season opening road trip by taking on Bronx rival Fordham at 7:00 p.m.
