MEN'S SOCCER FALLS SHORT AT MAINE, 4-1

Orono, Maine (September 18, 2005)- Maine's Jason Jacobe tallied two goals and Ben Wilcox added a goal and an assist as the Black Bears downed Manhattan, 4-1, this afternoon. Justin Schultz netted the lone Jasper goal, as Manhattan falls to 0-6-0 on the season.

The two teams played a tight first half, with Maine scoring the only goal of the opening stanza at the 28:55 mark, as Jacobe headed home a pass from Wilcox.

Early in the second half, Schultz knotted the score at 1-1 off a pass from Joe Pumo. The tally, Schultz's first of the season, came at the 50:22 point.

Unfortunately, the Black Bears turned up the offensive pressure the rest of the way, scoring three unanswered goals to close out the game.

Maine held a 14-9 edge in shots, but 10-6 in the second half. The Black Bears held a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks, but a 5-0 edge in the second half.

David Mires made three saves for Manhattan in his first start in net for the Jaspers. Chad Mongeon made five saves for Maine.

The Jaspers return to action on Tuesday, September 20, when they play Central Connecticut at 3:30 p.m. in a game that was originally scheduled for Friday.
