Riverdale, N.Y. (September 10, 2005)--Manhattan Men's Soccer held the New Jersey Institute of Technology scoreless for the first 79 minutes of play, but two late goals did in the Jaspers as they dropped a 2-0 decision at the SoccerPost.com Classic in West Long Branch, N.J.

In addition to holding NJIT (1-1-1) scoreless for a large portion of the contest, Manhattan (0-4-0, 0-0-0 MAAC) outshot the Highlanders 15-10. Unfortunately for the Jaspers, NJIT freshman Scott Reitze broke through in the 80th minute as his free kick from 25 yards out got past goalkeeper Dashiell Parsons. Despite playing down a man at the time, Manhattan got a prime opportunity to pull even, but junior David Mires' shot skidded just wide of the far post in the 83rd minute.

After Mires' hard luck, the Jaspers continued to press NJIT in hopes of generating another scoring chance, but NJIT's Greg Spaulding stole a Jasper pass and set up Eddie Romero's goal to put the game out of reach at the 89:34 mark.

Manhattan will return to action at the SoccerPost.com Classic as they face off against host Monmouth University tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. in West Long Branch, N.J.
