Freeman, a 2004 Manhattan graduate and NCAA national champion in both the indoor weight throw and outdoor hammer throw, placed second in the men's hammer throw, which qualifies him to represent the United States at the World Championships, held August 6-14 in Helsinki, Finland.

Freeman's final throw of 72.60 meters (238'2") placed him second overall, as just two other athletes eclipsed the 70 meter barrier. Freeman's best throw, which is just .12 meters off his personal best of 72.72, was four feet further than the third place thrower, but five feet behind the eventual champion.

Jules's last jump of 15.39 meters (50"6") not only gave him the fourth place finish with a personal best, but also broke the Manhattan freshman record, becoming just the second Jasper freshman to reach the 50-foot mark, joining David Frazier, who leaped 15.26 meters in 1990.
