MEN'S TRACK LEADS AFTER FIRST DAY OF MAAC CHAMPIONSHIPS

Lawrenceville, NJ (May 7, 2005)-The men's track & field team leads after the first day of competition at the 2005 MAAC Championships earning 57 points. The Jaspers are followed by followed by Iona (42), Rider (28), Saint Peter's (18) and Marist (10). On the women's side, Rider finished the day with 63 points, 18 points ahead of second place Manhattan who finished with 45. Marist finished in third with 37 points, followed by Iona (26) and Loyola (23).

Junior Marina Liander tied the MAAC record in the Hammer Throw throwing 52.22m. She tied with fellow Jasper LaCole Fields who broke the record in 2000. Freshman Ida-Maria Holmgren finished right behind Liander with a toss of 52.00m. Sophomore Tiina Magi finished second in the Long Jump with a leap of 5.19m.

On the men's side, the Jaspers earned 24 points after taking the top three spots in the Hammer Throw. Junior Zoran Loncar captured first place with a throw of 63.38m. In second place was juniorAnders Constantin (62.07m) and junior Michael Freeman came in third.
Junior Todd Raymond came in second place in the 3000m Steeplechase finishing in a time of 9:24.74.

The championship resumes tomorrow morning at 11:00 am at Rider University in Lawrenceville, NJ.
