MEN'S TRACK & FIELD WINS SECOND CONSECUTIVE OUTDOOR METROPOLITAN CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE

Queens, NY (April 17, 2005)- The men's track & field team won their second consecutive outdoor Metropolitan Championships held at St. John's University in Queens, NY this weekend. The team earned 168.50 points, 39.50 points ahead of Long Island University. Fordham finished in third place with 84 points. The women finished in fourth place with 82 points just 10.5 points behind Columbia. Rutgers placed first with 182 points.

Five men captured individual Metropolitan Championship Titles. Freshman Jamie Aponte pole vaulted 3.90m for first place. Sophomore Nick Newman leaped 6.98m in the Long Jump, and in the Triple Jump freshman Dexter Jules leaped 14.22m to earn their individual MET's titles. Throwing the hammer 62.07m for first place was junior Anders Constantin. The final Jasper to finish first this weekend was Milan Jotanovic. Jotanovic threw the Shot Put 18.58m.

Jotanovic also competed in the Discus throwing 45.62m for second place. Freshman Richard Reuter finished behind Jotanovic in the Shot Put after his throw of 14.55m. Capturing second place in the Hammer Throw behind Constantin was junior Zoran Loncar (59.86m).

In the running events junior Tyler Raymond led the pack with two second place finishes in the 800m and the 1500m. He ran a 1:54.58 800m and a 3:57.42 1500m.

On the women's side, junior Jenna Daly won her second consecutive Metropolitan Title after she pole vaulted 3.10m. Sophomore Tiina Magi finished second place in the High Jump with a vertical jump of 1.65m and in third place was freshman Caitlyn Kjolhede (1.65m). Magi also competed in the Triple Jump leaping 11.72m finishing in third. Junior Marina Liander captured second place in the Hammer Throw (51.58m) and third place in the Discus (38.94m).

Freshman Jasmine Rogers was the top sprinter for Manhattan capturing second place in the 100m Hurdles finishing in a time of 15.45 seconds.

The Jaspers compete again at the New York Relays starting Friday, April 22 and ending Sunday, April 24 at 10:00 a.m. The meet will be held at the Icahn Stadium on Randall's Island.
