New York, NY (February 7, 2005)- The men and women's track and field teams competed at the Armory Collegiate Invitational this past weekend. Junior Marina Liander broke the school record in the Weight Throw after her throw of 18.65m. She broke the previous record by .51m. Not only did she break the Lady Jaspers record but she also qualified for the NCAA Championships earning the "B" mark. She is the first Lady Jasper to qualify this year.
Also breaking a school record was junior Jenna Daly. Daly Pole Vaulted 3.70m finishing second. Qualifying for the ECAC for the first time this year was senior Rachel McGee. McGee ran the 1000m in 2:56.99.
There were two new relay IC4A qualification times this weekend starting with the 4x800m Relay "B" team. Junior
Todd Raymond, and freshman Juan Caceras,
Corey Robson and Tom Murphy ran the 4x800m in 7:52.03. The Distance Medley Relay team was the second relay to qualify for the IC4A Championships. Team members, senior
Matt Reilly, juniors
Tyler Raymond and
Joshua Conklin, and sophomore
Paul Papitto, ran the DMR in 9:57.12.
Individual qualifiers for the IC4A in the 1000m were
Tyler Raymond and Reilly. Raymond was crowned champion after finishing the race in 2:25.10 and Reilly placed fifth finishing in a time of 2:29.35. Junior
Anders Constantin threw the Weight Throw 19.16m to qualify for the championships.
Junior
Michael Freeman also qualified for the IC4A Championships competing at the Knights of Columbus meet held on Sunday in Canada after his throw of 19.74m
The Jaspers compete again on Saturday, February 12 at the Penn State University Invitational. Start time is slated for 10:00 a.m.
