Baltimore, MD (February 17, 2005)- The women's swimming team shattered three school records during the first day of competition at the MAAC Championships held at Loyola College. The team is currently in ninth place, eight points behind Canisius for eighth place.
Freshman
Maura McGowan broke the Manhattan record in the 50 freestyle, becoming the first swimmer in school history to swim the race in under 26 seconds (25.83), while the teams competing in the 200 freestyle relay and the 400 medley relay also broke school records by several seconds.
The 200 free relay team of McGowan,
Courtney Arduini,
Sarah Szotak and
Nicole Mason set the Manhattan school record by finishing the race in a time of 1:44.50, besting the previous time of 1:48.10 by more than three seconds. Meanwhile, the same four swimmers set a school record in the 400 medley relay, finishing the race in 4:17.86.
Earlier in the day, six Lady Jaspers set personal bests in several different races, including McGowan's record-breaking race in the 50 freestyle.

Heather Kennedy set her personal best in the 500 freestyle, swimming in a time of 5:48.92. Also setting her personal best in the 500 free was sophomore
Meghan Daly, while freshman
Michelle LaTouche set her personal best in the 200 individual medley. Meanwhile,
Bethany Karbowski,
Sarah Szotak and
Kristin Ziegelbauer all set personal bests in the 50 free.
The team will return to the pool tomorrow, Friday, February 18, in another full day of competition, with Session Three slated to begin at 10:00 a.m. and Session Four scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.
