Riverdale, NY (February 12, 2005)- Manhattan captured victories in the first three events of the meet today en route to a double dual sweep of St. Peter's and St. Joseph's (NY). Manhattan outscored St. Peter's 47-42, and topped St. Joseph's, 49-35. The sweep marks the third straight season the team has recorded a 10-win season, a first under eighth-year head coach Walter Olsewski.
The relay team of Sarah Szotak, Courtney Arduini, Maura McGowan and Michelle LaTouche got things started by taking first place in the 200 medley relay in the first race of the meet. Nicole Mason followed that race with a victory in the 200 free (2:08.71), while Szotak subsequently took first in the 50 free (26.40).
After Arduini took first in the 100 breast and 100 fly, and Heather Kennedy won the 500 free and Szotak captured first in the 100 back, the Lady Jaspers concluded the meet successfully, capturing another relay victory. This time it was the team of Kristin Ziegelbauer, LaTouche, Heather Kennedy and Mason taking home first in the 200 freestyle relay in a time of 1:56.07, completing the sweep in its final meet of the regular season.
Manhattan will return to the pool this week at the MAAC Championships in Baltimore, MD. Hosted by Loyola College, the Championships will take place from Wednesday, February 16 to Saturday, February 19.
