Niagara University, N.Y. (November 4, 2005)- Manhattan's MAAC playoff hopes ended today with a 5-0 loss at Niagara. The Jaspers fall to 1-4-3 in MAAC play, while the Purple Eagles clinch their first ever MAAC Tournament berth, improving their MAAC record to 5-3-0.
Despite out shooting Niagara, 20-11, and holding a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks, Manhattan could not solve Purple Eagle goalkeeper Eric Sullivan, who stopped a game-high nine shots to keep the Jaspers off the scoreboard, six of which came in the first half..
Niagara scored twice in the first half to take a 2-0 lead into the break, then added three second half goals to put the game out of reach.
David Mires tallied two saves in net for Manhattan.
Javier Escobedo, Kevin Martin, and Anthony Cacciola each recorded two shots on goal to pace the Manhattan attack.
The Jaspers conclude the regular season on Sunday, November 6, taking on Canisius at 1:00 p.m. in a MAAC contest.
