Jersey City, N.J. (November 12, 2005)- In a MAAC quad match at Saint Peter's College, Manhattan posted a dramatic come-from-behind win over Canisius, defeating the Golden Griffs, 57-51, on the final event of the meet. The Lady Jaspers also downed Saint Peter's, 75-28, but fell to Niagara, 78-30. Manhattan is now 5-2 on the season.
Entering the final event, the 200 Free Relay, down by a point, the Lady Jaspers knew they needed to touch the wall before Canisius to down the Griffs, and that is just what they did, as
Sarah Szotak's anchor leg gave Manhattan the win by less than second.
All told, the Lady Jaspers came back from a 22 point deficit to defeat Canisius.
Maura McGowan was a double-winner for Manhattan, placing first overall in the 50 Free, in a time of 26.16, as well as the 100 Free, in a time of 57.10.
Megan O'Keefe followed up a win in the 200 IM (2:21.26) with a school record breaking swim of 1:01.84 in the 100 Fly to also take home two individual wins.
Manhattan gets back in action on Saturday, November 19, when the Lady Jaspers travel to Newark, N.J. to take on NJIT and Hunter College at 1:00 p.m.
