Riverdale, N.Y. (October 28, 2005)- In a tightly contested match, Rider and Manhattan battled to a 0-0 draw in a MAAC contest this afternoon at Gaelic Park. David Mires recorded a game-high seven saves as the Jaspers improve to 1-3-1 in MAAC play, while Rider's MAAC record stands at 2-3-2.
The Jaspers carried play in the first half, holding a 5-1 advantage in shots and a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks, but could not solve Broncs goalkeeper Daniel Riverso, who tallied three of his six saves in the opening stanza.
In the second half, Rider picked up the offensive pressure, and had a good scoring opportunity at the 61:28 mark, as Dylan Matlack's shot hit the crossbar.
In the overtimes, each team had scoring opportunities, with the best coming from Manhattan's Javier Escobedo, who's point-blank shot was handled by Riverso.
On the day, the Jaspers out shot Rider, 15-11, and held a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks as each side came away with a point in the MAAC standings.
Manhattan returns to the pitch on Sunday, October 30, hosting Loyola in a MAAC contest slated to begin at 10:00 a.m. Manhattan seniors Joe Pumo and Kevin Martin will be honored before the match.
