Fairfield, Conn. (October 16, 2005)- In a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match, the host Fairfield Stags downed Manhattan, 5-0, this afternoon. Mike Scott tallied two markers for the Stags, who improve to 2-0-1 in MAAC play, while the Jaspers fall to 0-3-0 in MAAC play.
Fairfield scored twice in the first 39 minutes to take a 2-0 lead into the break. The game was closer than the score indicated at the half, as Fairfield held just a 5-2 edge in shots, and each keeper was called upon to make two first half saves.
The Stags opened the game up in the second stanza, scoring three times while posting an 11-2 advantage in shots.
David Mires made five saves on the day for Manhattan, while three Fairfield goalkeepers combined for four saves and the clean sheet.
Manhattan returns to the pitch on Saturday, October 22, hosting Saint Peter's in a MAAC contest slated to begin at 1:00 p.m.
