LIANDER CAPTURES FIRST PLACE AT FORDHAM INVITATIONAL

Riverdale, NY (January 7, 2005)- The men and women's track & field weight throwers competed at the first day of the Fordham Invitational held in Draddy Gymnasium this afternoon. Junior Marina Liander captured a first place finish in the Weight Throw after her toss of 16.59m. This throw qualified her for the ECAC Championships that will be held on March 5-6.

Freshman Ida-Marie Holmgren finished in fourth place with her throw of 14.02m followed by junior Jennifer Bradley (13.84m). Rider's Krystle Daniels came in second place after her toss of 15.12m and Randy Cuccaro of Southern Connecticut State University placed third (14.12m).

Thomas Jacob Freeman finished first in the Weight Throw for the New York Athletic Club with his fifth throw of 22.61m. Sophomore Zoran Loncar placed second in today's competition with his toss of 20.10m qualifying him for the NCAA "B" Mark. Currently Loncar is ranked third in the country and junior Michael Freeman, who placed third today with a throw of 18.80m, is fourth in the country. Other Manhattan throwers competing in the Weight Throw today were junior Anders Constantin (18.20m), sophomore Paul Peulich (18.08m) and freshman Rich Reuter (14.14m). Freeman, Constantin, and Peulich each earned a qualifying mark for the IC4A and Reuter had a qualifying mark for the Metropolitan Championships.

More Jaspers will compete tomorrow Friday, January 7 at the Armory in New York, NY starting at 11 a.m.
