MEN'S TRACK AND FIELD CAPTURES SECOND STRAIGHT METROPOLITAN CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE

New York, NY (January 31, 2005)- The men's Track & Field team captured the 63rd Metropolitan Indoor Championship Title this past weekend at the Armory in New York, NY. This was Jaspers' 33rd Metropolitan Championship Title. The women's team captured fourth place out of 16 teams that competed.

Freshman Milan Jotanovic placed second in the Shot Put with a toss of 17.79m qualifying for the NCAA Championships. This throw places him with the "B" Mark in the NCAA marking, which means at the end of the season he has a chance of competing at the NCAA Championships depending on how many athletes make it into the "A" marking.

Sophomore Christano Johnson was crowned Metropolitan High Jump Champion after his vertical jump of 2.60m. Johnson also competed in the Triple Jump (4th, 14.44m) and Long Jump (6th, 6.69m). Placing first in the Long Jump was sophomore Nick Newman with a leap of 7.08m. He also placed second in the Triple Jump 14.57m finishing behind freshman Dexter Jules who captured the Championship Title after his leap of 14.67m. He also finished third in the Long Jump (6.96m). Both jumps were Jules' personal best.

Senior Nils Pettersson moved up from fourth place after the first day of the Pentathlon to second place finishing with 4, 882 points. He also finished third overall in the Pole Vault with his vault of 4.35m.

The men's 4x800m Relay team captured first place finishing in a time of 7:49.38. The team consisted of senior Matt Reilly, juniors Josh Conklin, Tyler Raymond, and sophomore Michael Foley. Sophomore Joseph Cruz captured second place in the 60m Hurdles finishing in a time of 8.38.

The top finisher on the women's side was junior Jenna Daly. Daly broke both the school and her personal record Pole Vaulting 3.68m (12'11") for first place. Finishing in second behind Daly was sophomore Tiina Magi vaulting 2.90m (9'6"). Magi also captured third in the High Jump jumping 1.60m. Also competing in the Pole Vault for the Lady Jaspers was junior Jessica Jansson. She finished third with her vault of 2.75m. Jansson also competed in the Pentathlon on Saturday finishing sixth and earning an ECAC qualifying mark in the High Jump jumping 1.70m.

Junior Marina Liander finished third in both the Shot Put (13.34m) and Weight Throw (16.45m). Breaking her personal record in the 5000m run was junior Caryn Capalbo. She finished seventh with a time of 18:48.30. Running the mile for the Lady J's was Rachel McGee and freshman Eryka Perreault. McGee finished 11th with a time of 5:13.88 and Perreault captured 14th with a time of 5:19.90.

The Jaspers compete again on Thursday, February 3 at the Millrose Games in Draddy Gymnasium.
