TRACK AND FIELD HOSTS SNOWY MANHATTAN INVITATIONAL

Riverdale, NY (January 22, 2005)- The men and women's track and field teams hosted the Manhattan Invitational on this snowy Saturday afternoon. The Jaspers had ten athletes earn first place finishes. Seven of these athletes were women.

Junior Marina Liander started the Lady Jaspers off right taking first place in the Weight Throw with a toss of 17.43m. Later on in the meet Liander earned first in the Shot Put after her throw of 12.90m. Freshman Jasmine Rogers also won multiple events, with her 7.1 second 55m and 8.6 second 55m Hurdle. In the Pole Vault junior Jenna Daly vaulted 3.51m for first place. Freshman Shanelle Lawrence leaped 10.27m in the Triple Jump to take first in that event. Tiina Magi rounded the end of the meet with a first place finish in the High Jump jumping 1.60m vertically.

On the men's side, freshman Dexter Jules captured first place in the Triple Jump with his leap of 14.60m. In the 500m, junior Paul Pappito won by one second with a time of 1:08.5. Freshman Milan Jotanovic captured first place in the Shot Put tossing the Shot 17.17m.

Metropolitan qualifiers will compete next weekend, Saturday, January 29 at the Metropolitan Championships in Draddy Gymnasium starting at 8:00 a.m.
