Riverdale, NY (January 15, 2005)- Track and Field competed at the Black Knight Invitational held in West Point, NY this afternoon. The men's team finished second finishing with 149.50 beating Connecticut by just 9.5 points. Army captured first place with a score of 204.50. The Lady Jaspers finished in fourth place behind Army, Connecticut and the University of Pennsylvania.
Three women qualified for the ECAC and Metropolitan Championships, while three men earned qualifying marks for the IC4A and MET's.
Junior Jenna Daly qualified in the Pole Vault with a vault of 3.60m, while junior Marina Liander threw the weight 17.33m. Liander also competed in the Shot Put finishing second with a toss of 13.38m. The last woman to qualify for the ECAC and MET's championships today was freshman Jasmine Rogers who finished the 60m Hurdles in 8.71 seconds.
Juniors Anders Constantin (18.59m) and Zoran Loncar (18.59m), along with sophomore Paul Peulich earned an IC4A and MET's qualifying mark in the Weight Throw. Peulich finished second in the Shot Put with his toss of 15.01m.
Sophomore Christano Johnson finished in first place for the men jumping 2.06m in the High Jump. Placing first in the Triple Jump with a jump of 14.29m was sophomore Andrew Pellet. Finishing right behind Pellet was sophomore Nick Newman leaping 14.23m. Newman also competed in the Long Jump finishing second with a jump of 6.74m. Senior Nils Petterson captured second place in the Pole Vault vaulting 4.35m.
Running the Mile in 4:16.28 for second place was junior Todd Raymond. Sophomore Paul Papitto finished second in the 400m with a time of 51.39. The men's 4x800m relay team earned second place running the race in 7:54.00. The team consisted of senior Matt Reilly, juniors Tyler Raymond and Todd Raymond, and sophomore Mike Foley.
Capturing first place in the High Jump today was freshman Caitlyn Kjolhede with a vertical jump of 1.65m. Sophomore Tiina Magi finished second in the High Jump with a jump of 1.63m.
Qualifying Jaspers compete again on Saturday, January 29 at the Metropolitan Championships starting at 10 a.m. in Draddy Gymnasium.
