West Haven, CT (April 3, 2004) - The Jaspers downed MAAC foe Virginia Military Institute in West Haven, CT, 13-8. Justin Otto led Manhattan with four goals. With the victory, Manhattan improves to 5-2 and 3-1 in the MAAC.
The Jaspers started off the game with three straight goals in the first 14 minutes of action. Manhattan ended the quarter with a score of 4-1, which included goals by Justin Otto, Jeremy Marrano, Christian Schaeffers, and Chris Oppito.
VMI bounced back in the second quarter with three straight goals, evening the score at 4-4. Manhattan responded with two goals by Schaeffers and Brian Murray regaining the lead, 6-4. After a Joe Picariello goal for the Keydets, Manhattan netted two goals to end the period ahead 8-5.
After a an unassisted goal by Robert Trimble for VMI, the Jaspers tallied three goals by Greg Lewis, Eugene Tanner and Brian Murray extended their lead to 11-6 at the end of the third quarter.
In the final quarter, Eugene Tanner and Justin Otto netted two more goals before Erik Rohrmann for VMI scored two goals to end the game. The Jaspers ended the game with the 13-8 victory.
For the Jaspers, freshman Brian Murray recorded five points, Eugene Tanner, Christian Schaeffers, and Greg Lewis each recorded two points. Chris Oppito, Nick Crowley, and Jeremey Marrano each totaled one point. Goaltender Robert Busweiler recorded seven saves in the victory.
The Jaspers are back in action against Big East member Rutgers in Piscataway, NJ on Tuesday, April 6 at 7 pm.
