Riverdale, NY (April 24, 2004) - The Manhattan College men's lacrosse team fell to MAAC rival Marist, 12-10 at Gaelic Park on Senior Day. Seniors Chris Hawkins and Brady Becklo were honored prior to the game. Despite seven players recording points, the Jaspers drop their second conference game of the season and fall to 6-5 overall and 4-2 in the MAAC.
The Jaspers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first quarter, Justin Otto netted both goals. Marist responded with two goals to end the quarter even at 2-2.
Marist went ahead with a goal by Josh Ben-Eliyahu at the 12:38 mark in the second quarter, making the score 3-2. Manhattan bounced back with goals by Eugene Tanner and Chris Oppito, ending the half with Manhattan ahead 4-3.
The Red Foxes netted four straight goals to start the third quarter, putting Marist ahead 7-4. The Jaspers ended the quarter pulling within one, with goals by Eugene Tanner and Greg Lewis.
At the 12:35 mark, Justin Otto tied the game up with his second goal of the game, knotting the score at 7-7. The teams traded goals over the next 4:49, until Marist scored three consecutive goals, giving the Red Foxes the 12-9 lead. Manhattan would tally one more goal by Jeremy Marrano at the 3:16 mark before time expired. Marist with the 12-10 victory remains undefeated in the MAAC, with one game remaining on their schedule.
Junior tri-captain Eugene Tanner led the way for the Jaspers with two goals and three assists, totaling five points. Chris Oppito (1 goal, 2 assist) and Justin Otto (3 goals) each recorded 3 points. Junior goaltender Robert Busweiler made seven saves between the pipes.
The Jaspers are back in action when they host their final home game of the season on Tuesday, April 27 at 3:30 pm against MAAC rival Wagner.
