Buffalo, NY (March 20, 2004) -The Golden Griffins defeated men's lacrosse today, 13-3 in MAAC Lacrosse League action at the Demske Sports Complex. Manhattan falls to 3-2, 1-1 in the MAAC, while the Griffs improve to 2-4 overall, 2-0 in the league.


Canisius opened up a 2-0 lead after the first quarter on goals. The Jaspers cut the lead to 2-1 at the 11:48 mark of the second quarter on a goal by Greg Lewis, but Canisius rattled off three unanswered goals in just under four minutes to create a 5-1 lead. Lewis scored his second of the game for Manhattan to knock the lead down to 5-2, but Canisius scored with three seconds remaining in the quarter on a goal by senior Steve Muskopf and took a 6-2 lead into the halftime break.

Junior Travis Hill gave Canisius a 7-2 advantage with a man-up goal with 5:48 remaining in the third quarter and teammate Matt Condon tallied his second of the game with 2:04 left in the quarter, giving the Griffs a 8-2 lead. Manhattan would score their final goal of the afternoon with 30 seconds left in the quarter on a score by Justin Otto.

Canisius would score five unanswered goal in the fourth quarter to pull away and seal the game.

Manhattan's Robert Busweiler stopped eight shots in the loss for the Jaspers. Sophomore goalie Tom Kucharczak posted 15 saves for Canisius in the win.

Manhattan returns to action next Saturday, March 27, when they travel to Loudonville, NY to play Siena at 2 pm.
