Niagara University, NY (November 13, 2004)- Manhattan came back from a thirteen-point deficit to defeat Canisius in a double-dual meet on Saturday at Niagara University. Sophomores Nicole Mason (Yorktown, NY/Yorktown) and Courtney Arduini (Selkirk, NY/Bethlehem Central), and freshman Maura McGowan (Kalamazoo, MI/Hatchett Catholic Central) each won mutliple individual events to help lead the Lady Jaspers to a 75-60 victory over the Golden Griffins.

Mason won the 100 back (1:07.37) and the 50 fly (29.72), while Arduini won the 50 back (30.24) and 100 fly (1:03.96), and McGowan won the 50 free (26.61) and 100 free (58.21) to help the Lady Jaspers overcome the deficit against Canisius.

"Coming back from thirteen points down halfway through the meet is a credit to these fourteen swimmers who care for each other and the team concept," said head coach Walter Olsewski.

Manhattan ultimately split the tri-meet, as they were outscored by Niagara, 95-37. The Purple Eagles won the meet overall, also outscoring Canisius, 94-44.

With the split, Manhattan's record is now 4-3 overall and 1-2 in the MAAC.

The Lady Jaspers will return to the pool on Sunday, November 21, in a tri-meet against the New Jersey Institute of Technology and Hunter College. The meet will take place at NJIT at 1:00 p.m.
