Jersey City, NJ (October 8, 2004)- St. Peter's Douglas Narvaez scored off a rebound in the 41st minute for the only goal of the game as St. Peter's beats Manhattan, 1-0 in both teams MAAC opener. The Jaspers fall to a 1-7 overall record and a 0-1 MAAC record, while St. Peter's improves to a 4-2-3 overall and 1-0 MAAC record.

St. Peter's pressed the attack in the first half, but got its only goal when Murphy Wiredu played the ball ahead to Marcel Nyamsi, who ripped a shot from the top of the box hitting the crossbar and landed near Narvaez, who finished the play from about eight yards out at 40:23.

Jasper's sophomore Collin Leaver was strong in goal for the Jaspers, stopping 13 shots, as Saint Peter's dominated the shots 25-3 overall. Manhattan kept most of the Peacocks shots outside the goal area making it more difficult for St. Peter's to score.

Although the play favored Saint Peter's for most of the match, Manhattan pushed forward more in the last 30 minutes in a bid to tie the score. The Jaspers sent a lot of high balls into the Saint Peter's goal area, prompting some anxious moments leading up to the final horn.

Saint Peter's goalkeeper Pat Nagawiecki made two saves in recording his second shutout of the season.

Manhattan travels to play NJIT on Tuesday, October 12 at 6:30 pm in Newark, NJ.
