Poughkeepsie, NY (October 29, 2004) - The Marist men's soccer team extended its school record
consecutive shutout streak to seven with a 3-0 win over visiting Manhattan tonight on Leonidoff Field.

Junior midfielder Bruno Machado had two assists and freshman midfielder Scott Grouten had an assist for his first career point.

Marist (9-4, 6-0 MAAC) jumped out to an early lead as freshman midfielder Damian Caputo put Machado's entry pass over the head of Jaspers goalkeeper Collin Leaver and in the net just 2:14 into the game.

The Red Foxes would hold that lead the rest of the way, adding late insurance goals by junior back Peter Rea, assisted by Grouten in the 71st
minute, and sophomore forward Keith Detelj. Detelj's goal, his team and conference-leading eighth of the year, came in the 82nd minute and was assisted by Machado.

Senior goalkeeper Mike Valenti made one save to earn his seventh straight shutout. The Red Foxes are undefeated and unscored upon in MAAC play. Leaver made five saves for Manhattan, which falls to 3-11, 1-5 MAAC.

The Jaspers return to action on Sunday, October 31, when they travel to Loudonville, NY, to take on the Siena Saints in a MAAC match slated to begin at 1:00 p.m.
