Riverdale, NY (October 23, 2004)- One day after coming within one kill of her career high, junior
Maggie Pfeifer set a career high with 30 kills via a .406 hitting percentage against Rider in Manhattan's four-game loss to the Broncs, 3-1. Game scores were 30-22, 26-30, 30-26, 30-21. Rider, which moves to 3-1 in the MAAC, was led by Jaclyn Levi, who notched 19 kills to go along with 18 digs. With the loss, the Lady Jaspers fall to 1-2 in MAAC play.
The first game was close early, as Manhattan knotted the score at 14 after Rider had taken a brief lead. Rider then went on a 9-3 run to open up a 23-17 advantage. Manhattan closed to within five at 25-20, but Rider pulled away and took the first game.
The Lady Jaspers stormed out to a 10-2 advantage in the second game, paced by five kills from Pfeifer during that stretch. Manhattan widened its margin in taking a 22-10 lead, but Rider would claw back into the game, fighting off three game points to cut the deficit to 29-26. However, Manhattan ultimately took its fourth game point and won the second game, in which they registered a .302 team hitting percentage.
Thirteen ties and three lead changes highlighted a tight third game, in which neither team could widen its lead until the end. Rider took a 15-12 lead on a service ace from Nastasja Avramovic, but Manhattan would fight back and eventually take a 20-18 lead on a service ace of their own, this time coming from
Megan O'Dorisio. The lead went back and forth, but Rider took the lead for good at 26-25 and scored four of the next five points to open up a 2-1 lead in the match.
Rider seized the momentum and jumped out to a 10-2 lead to begin the fourth game. Manhattan would close to within four at 11-7, but Rider tallied eight points in a row to take a 19-7 lead and ultimately wrap up the match.
O'Dorisio also set a career high of her own with 22 digs while Avramovic led Rider's defense with 20 digs.
Manhattan (5-19) will return to MAAC action next weekend with a trip to Buffalo. They will take on Niagara on Saturday, October 30 at 1:00 p.m. and then will face Canisius on Sunday, October 31, also at 1:00 p.m.
