MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY FOURTH, WOMEN SIXTH AT METROPOLITAN CHAMPIONSHIPS

Bronx, NY (October 1, 2004)- Tyler Raymond finished seventh overall to lead the Manhattan College men's cross country team to a fourth place finish at the Metropolitan Championships at Van Cortlandt Park. Eryka Perreault, Ginine Lucarello and Julie Lamiquiz, the top three runners on the women's side, finished within five seconds of each other to help the women's team to a sixth-place finish.

Karl Dusen placed third overall while Gerry Groothuis was fifth to lead Columbia University to the men's title. In the women's competition, Hilary Bontz was second overall while teammate Margaret Frank placed sixth to lead the Columbia women to the team title.

Stony Brook's Dale Summerville won the individual title, covering the 5K course in a time of 25:27.4. Stephen Chemlany of Iona was second, with a 25:30.9 clocking while Dusen took third in 25:39.5. Rounding out the top ten for the men were Iona's Adam Hortian who placed fourth (25:46.8); Groothuis, who was fifth in 25:47.8; Columbia's Mark Oliver, who placed sixth (25:49.0); Raymond, who was seventh (25:51.6); Columbia Greg Hughes, who placed eighth (25:53.6); Stony Brook's Brian Farrell, who was ninth (25:57.2) and Columbia's Will Boylan Pett, who took tenth (25:58.6).

On the women's side, Stony Brook's Leonora Joy won the individual title, covering the 5-mile course in 18:20. Bontz was right behind her, finishing second in 18:38, while Rutgers' Belmadx DeJesus was third in 18:40. Rounding out the top ten for the women were Stony Brook's Sarah Beresford, who was fourth (18:46); Rutgers' Sarah Peterson, who placed fifth (18:48); Frank, who placed sixth in a time of 18:54; Columbia's Shelby Leland, who was seventh (19:02); Marist's Diane Matthews, who finished eighth (19:04); Stony Brook's Dana Hastie, who placed ninth (19:10) and Fordham's Kristen Dolan, who was tenth (19:13).

The Columbia men won the event with a team score of 32 followed by Iona (113), Marist (117), Manhattan (131), Stony Brook (160), Fordham (166), Southern Connecticut State (172), New York University (181), Rutgers (245) and Long Island (269).

The Columbia women won with a team score of 39 followed by Stony Brook (68), Rutgers (72), Marist (92), Fordham (152), Manhattan (202), Wagner (218), Seton Hall (226) and C.W. Post (269).

Manhattan is next in action on Friday, October 15, when the team will host the Iona/Manhattan Invitational at Van Cortlandt Park, beginning at 3:00 p.m.
