Canale arrived in Riverdale after serving as the Head Coach of the rowing program at Saint Peter's Preparatory School in Jersey City since establishing the program in 2009.

A former student-athlete at Loyola University (MD), Canale was a four-year member of the Greyhounds' rowing team before graduating in 2009 with a Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry. He then earned his Master's Degree in Educational Leadership from Saint Peter's University.
