John Alesi enters his fourth season as an assistant on the Manhattan College coaching staff. Alesi works with both the Jaspers' front and back court players. His duties also include recruiting, scouting and scheduling. Alesi serves as the program's liaison for faculty related events.
Alesi joined the Jasper staff after serving as the video coordinator at Pittsburgh during the 2005-06 season. He assisted the Panthers' staff with video scouting and managed the program's film exchange.
Alesi began his collegiate coaching career at Hofstra University where he served as a graduate assistant coach for a season (2003-04) under Head Coach Tom Pecora. He returned to his alma mater Baruch College for the 2004-05 campaign as an assistant under long time head coach Ray Rankis.
Alesi, a New York native, lettered four years at Baruch, guiding the program to four consecutive post-season appearances, while compiling its best record over a four year span (78-34) in school history.
In 2000, Alesi propelled Baruch to its first City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) Championship and NCAA Tournament berth. For his efforts, he received CUNYAC Rookie of the Year honors. As a senior, Alesi led Baruch to a school-best 25-5 record and ECAC Metro NY/NJ title. He was selected to the All-CUNYAC First Team, NABC Second Team All-Region, Second Team All-Metropolitan and Most Outstanding Player of the ECAC Tournament.
Alesi concluded his playing career at Baruch ranked ninth all-time in scoring (1,091), second in steals (237), third in 3-point field goals (120) and the program leader for career free-throw percentage (80.0%).
Alesi received his bachelor's degree in 2004 double majoring in business administration and marketing management.
He is the son of long-time Xaverian High School head coach Jack Alesi.
