Pat Slevin was hired as head coach of Manhattan's men's and women's cross country programs in January 2013. He also serves as an assistant coach working with the distance runners during the indoor and outdoor track & field seasons.
Slevin came to Manhattan after eight years as an English teacher and track coach at Chaminade High School in Mineola, N.Y. While at Chaminade, he led the Flyers to three Nassau-Suffolk Catholic High School Athletic Association (NSCHSAA) indoor championships, as well as the 2011 Catholic high school state title. He also mentored two individual national champions, four state champions and 35 high school All-Americans during his time at Chaminade. In addition, a pair of Slevin's athletes represented the United States at the Pan American Junior Championships.
Prior to his time at Chaminade, Slevin was the Associate Head Coach at St. Anthony's High School in South Huntington, N.Y., from 1999-2004. The Friars won six Catholic high school state championships (three cross country, two outdoor, one indoor) during his tenure. Slevin coached seven individual state champions and nine high school All-Americans at St. Anthony's.
From 1993-98, Slevin served as an assistant coach at St. John's University, where he was also the recruiting coordinator. He was a part of the Big East Staff of the Year in 1996, when the Red Storm finished 17th at the NCAA Cross Country Championships. St. John's athletes earned All-America honors in cross country, as well as the 3000, 5000 and 10,000 meters outdoors under his tutelage. While at St. John's, Slevin also worked with John Honerkamp, helping him reach the semifinals of the 800 meters at the 1996 U.S. Olympic Trials.
In addition, he has held key positions in track & field event promotion, management and coordination on the local, state and national levels. Slevin has helped with the organization/operation of such major events as the Millrose Games, Big East Championships, Metropolitan Championships and New York State High School Championships.
